Memories
Thank You
"Why don't we have snow, and sled, and hills? he asked. And when did we in the past? Did my parents have sled when they were young? Did you?"P.83
Five Questions
Jonas
Curious
Jonas is eager to know anything that makes him wonder, and he is eager to know what were the connection between each other.
"Do you mean-you did say I could ask questions? The man nodded, encouraging his question."
Careful
"Sir? Jonas said shyly"P.87
Even though in the instructions, Jonas was permitted to ask any question, he still asked each question gingerly, trying to show respect to the Giver.
1. What could have happened to the previous Receiver, did she die? Or did she go somewhere else?
2. Why is the memory transmitted by using bare habd to touch bare back?
3. Why did the Giver say that he only had honor but bo power?
4. Why didn't the Giver respond when Jonas said that he was glad that the Giver gave him the memory of pain?
5. How did all the memories come to the Giver and made him so stressed?
"I'm brave. I really am. Jonas sat up a little Straighter"P.85
Having a strong conscious with courage, Jonas knew that there will be certain memories that are painfull, yet he still wants the Giver to give him the memories of all kind, showing Jonas isn't affraid of what might happen to him.
Fearless
The Giver
"Honor, he said firmly. Ihave great honor. So will you. But you will find that that s not the same as power."-P.84
Honorable
Showing that the Giver doesn't have power but honor becausehe held all the memories.People in the society respect him as an honorable person, but being honorable doesn't make any differnce to the society, it still remaned sameness.
The importance of chapter 11 is that it showed how the memories were transmitted, and what basically happened to these memories, and why the memories where only held by the Giver.
To me, it was interesting how Jonas received the memories. In our society, we don't have to "receive" the memories, but we experience it in our daily life, not like in Jonas' society, they couldn't even know what the memories were.
In this chapter it also mentioned about the previous failure of the last Receiver, this made wonder what exactly happened to the last Receiver, Did she die? Or was she able to go another community that differed to Jonas' society.
The Giver mentioned about why there were many memories that only the Giver had, was because the "Sameness" th society want to achieve. This was why they had only bicycles for transporting because the landscape was flat; and why in the beggining Jonas was frghtened by the sound of an airplane flying across from the sky was because they didn't have the memory of knowing what that was; and at the end, when Jonas realized everything, he fled from his society.
In my opinion, Lowry tried to tell us how the memory was given, and why the memories only belong to the Receiver.
In our society, memories belong to everone, though we might not be able to experience it, and we might Not want to experience, we could still know from the books, internet, TV, even from others. Compared to Jonas' society, they couldn't experience the memories and they can't know it. It is good that we could know the things in our society, but if you see it in another point of view, it could cause problems, such as knowing what murduring is could cause murdur. In Jonas' society, everything was under control, all the memories they should have and all the memories they shouldn't has all been determined. I think that I would still like to choose to live the society I'm in now because staying in a society that is perfect with no pain isn't the type for me. I think people should have the experience of pain so that we would knowwhat we should do and what we shouldn't do. To experience pain could also make us become more mature in this society.
"It was exhausting. But you know, even transmitting that tiny memory to you-I think it just lightened me a little."-P.82
In spite of transmitting the memories to Jonas, the Giver still felt exhausting. Thought he gave the memory to Jonas, the Giver still had thousands of memories in his mind that he has to have.
Stressful
"Sir? Jonas said shyly. Yes? you have a question?"P.87
At the end of this chapter, Jonas still had a lot of wuestions that he asked th Giver, and instead of being testy, he still remained patience and answered Jonas' questions.

Vocabularies
By using facsimiles, it makes the reader know more about what the author wants to tells us, and it could be easier to "see" the image in our mind that what is happening in the story.
Using irony made me think that the Giver might be a little angry about only haveing honor instead of having power.
