Social issues

The people of West Point have very little education, those who do still fall under poverty. They have no access to electricity, making their nights pitch black. Drugs thrive in West Point, drugs like Heroin, cocaine and Marijuana are very common and accessible to everyone including children. Due to not having a sewage system, feces and urine are scattered mostly on the beach and coast line but also in the city.

Liberian Slums

West Point

West Point is absolutely horrible, with problems in all aspects (security, employment, social and health issues, housing, war, etc.)

Demographics, Employment and Security

When looking at the demographics of Liberia it is the same as the West Point slum, because Liberia in general, is a large slum. The main sources of income in the slum, would have to be drugs, prostitution, but since 80% of the country is unemployed the main sources of income are through barter and trade. There is no security at all, since the departure of UN soldiers, due to the Ebola outbreaks.

Health Issues

West Point, Monrovia

AIDs, Malaria and STDs are extremely common but recently the spread of Ebola has taken over the slum. It was even quarantined August 20th, 2014. Over 350+ people were confirmed to have died from Ebola virus. Thought many locals disagree and even deny presence of the virus, scientists say the contraction of the virus is from eating "Bush-meat" which is generally monkeys or rodent from the near by jungles. Another source of contraction is from cannibalism, which is extremely common and sometimes a necessary measure to survive famine amongst locals.

Liberia

West Point is a township located on a peninsula between the Mesurado and Saint Paul rivers. Home to approximately 75,000 people, West Point is one of Monrovia's most densely populated slums.

Liberia is located in West Africa and is bordered by Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast, and the capital city is Monrovia. It has a population of 4,092,310. The official currency is the Liberian dollar (1LRD=0.015CAD). They have a constitutional republican government.

Demographics of Liberia

As of 2006, Liberia has the highest population growth rate in the world ( 4.50% per year). 43.5% of Liberians are below the age 15. 2.8% of the population is over 65 years of age.
