The Sahara Desert is located in Africa.

It covers over 10% of the continent.

It is bounded between the Red and Mediterranean Sea.

  • One of the world's largest deserts.
  • Covers several part of African nations including: Sudan, Chad, Egypt, Libya, etc.
  • Around 25% of the desert is sand dunes, some reach up to 500ft.

It is extremely hot and dry.

The Sahara Desert is one of the hottest regions in the world.

The average annual temperature for the desert is 86°F. But during the hottest months temperatures can exceed 122°F.

Civet Cat

Males weigh up to 15-55 lbs

Females weigh up to 12-36 lbs

Civets will fed on almost anything ; small antelope, carrion,veggies/fruits and berries

Lion

Male weigh up to 416lbs

Females weigh up to 277lbs

Some of the larger lions will take on buffaloes and even bull giraffes. However, most lions will prey on rodents, birds, turtles, lizards, fish and ostrich eggs.

Lions are also carnivores

White Rhino

Male weighs up to 448-4972 lbs

Female weighs up to 3520lbs.

Rhinos are herbivores so they eat nothing but plants.

The majority of the people living in the Sahara Desert are nomads, which means that these people continuously move from region to region in search of better living conditions. It is believed that the first nomadic peoples came to this region after domestic animals were introduced to the Sahara 7,000 years ago. Researchers believe that sheep and goats were introduced to the Sahara region by the Caspain culture of northern Africa.
