Workshop Info

Students will choose a partner for their workshops.

Each duo will give TWO workshops at their site during the semester.

Workshops will be graded.

Each workshop should last approximately one hour.

Brainstorming Ideas

Consider the following:

What are your skills? What are your hobbies/interests?

How can you utilize your skills/interests to meet the needs/desires of the community you are serving?

What is the educational level/age group of your target audience?

Workshop Design

DEAF 415

  • Design a workshop that is appropriate for your site's function.
  • Establish objectives for your workshop. Then plan around them.
  • Make sure your workshop is interesting and fun, while also educational.
  • For a younger audience, the workshop should consist of 85% activity and 15% lecture.

Developing Workshops

Workshop Planning

  • Submit topic & plan and receive approval from your on-site supervisor with at least two weeks in advance.
  • NOTE: The Boys and Girls Club requires that you fill out a form.
  • Gather all the materials you may need for your workshop. You may ask your site if they have any materials for you to use/borrow.
  • Rehearse at least twice before presentation.
  • Learn all the signs for your presentation.

Workshop Execution

  • Don't be nervous. It is usually a fun experience.
  • Double check with your on-site supervisor ahead of time.
  • Arrive early with all materials prepared.
  • Dress appropriately. If your workshop is an active one, then you want to dress comfortably.
  • Make sure both you and your partner lead & present for the equal amount of time.
  • Have one back-up activity in case you finish too early.
