Testimonial
You may recongnize this man - yes, that's right - it's Santa.
Santa is endorsing Coca-Cola,
making this testimonial.
Testimony is a propaganda technique
using a well-recognized
face to endorse, or give a
testimony, of a product.
Slogan
Another commonly used propaganda technique is
slogan. The slogan technique is basically a catchy
phrase building up the service, product, etc. This
particular slogan is from 1929, but it still a valid
slogan.
"Things go better with Coke. Drink Coca-Cola"
Hmm. Doesn't really give specifics on how things
will "go better". This propaganda technique uses
generalized words that don't really say much,
but sound appealing.
Glittering Generalities
As this picture shows, this is an evidence claim.
Evidence claim is a propaganda technique used
when citing statistics of any form for any service,
product, etc. This picture is showing that 80% of
people prefer Coke to other brands. How true this
is, I'm not sure, but it's a commonly used propaganda
technique.
Evidence Claims
A soldier drinking a Coca-Cola.
This technique is called patriotism.
The goal is to reach people who are
very patriotic. So, a soldier drinking
a Coke is going to influence people to
drink more Coke.
