Equinox is a period of time when the sun across the celestial equator.
One effect is that on an equinox, geometrically, daylight and night time are equally long everywhere on Earth. Hence the name "equinox," meaning "equal night."
The two equinoxes each year are taken to be the first days of Spring and Fall.
The Solstice is generally celebrated on the 21st of December.
The Winter Solstice is the shortest day, and longest night of the year, and is the traditional time to celebrate the truly important things in life: your family, your children, your home and looking forward to a wonderful year to come.
Summer solstice
- The summer solstice occurs once a year in June when the Sun’s track across the reaches its highest point. It is a day that features the most daylight hours of any in the year.
- The Summer solstice usually occurs on June 20 and 22
DongJi (동지)
- On Dong-Ji day, we have the longest night time of the year. "Dong-Ji(동지)" in Korean letters, It means "the peak of the winter".
- Some koreans eat red bean soup, pray for their ancestors and visit buddhism temple to pray for their health and good lucks.
- This day is not holidays, this is the tradition of koreans.
- We, koreans believe that when we eat red bean soup on Dong-Ji day, we will get a good luck and good health on next years.
- So, some korean women make red bean soup on Dong-Ji day and eat red bean with their family.
