Spanish Religion

Reconquista

The Spanish believed in God, and an afterlife in either heaven or hell.

The Reconquista lasted for centuries, and at the end, Roman Catholicism was the only religion Spainiards were allowed to practice.

Castilian Language

Castilian is currently known as Spanish.

Feathers

The feathers were rare, delicate, and brilliantly colored, unlike gold.

Aztec Story

The Aztecs used symbols and pictures to represent words and stories. The stories were written on cloth, ornate paper or deerskin.

Chinampas were floating gardens on swampy land. They were created to increase production.

Human sacrifices were common. Human blood was used as an offering for the gods. They also used still-living hearts of warriors.

The Aztec's fought and died for their gods to keep the world order in balance. They thought they played a very small role.

Priests were usually members of the nobility. They would give the emporers advice on dreams and omens.

The nobility looked down on farming and manual labour. The nobility bought land and didn't do anything with it, wasting land. Farming was the backbone of Aztecsociety, while it was looked down on in Spanish society.

The positon of emperor couldn't be inherited in case the next family member wasn't fit for duty.

The huey tlatoani was the name for the emperor. He was the representative of the god Huitzilopochtli.

Aztec Currency

Highest Political Figure

The Aztecs used tribute as money. The money the used was in forms of animal skins, goods, and cacao beans.

Mesta

Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were the highest political figure.

Spanish Ruler

The Mesta were a powerful group of sheep farmers. The monarch gave ex-farming land to the Mesta, leaving less land for crops.

The ruler was chosen by God, giving them the Divine Right to Rule.
