Book talk by Dany Vesselovskii

The genres of Treasure Island are adventure, action, and historical fiction.

Jim Hawkins, his mother, and his father live at the "Admiral Benbow" when a seafaring buccaneer comes to stay at their inn.

I enjoyed the book, thought that it was a good book and thought that it was quite successful.

"The Admiral Benbow"

The "Admiral Benbow" is Jim's home and the first setting introduced in the book.It is also where Jim meets Billy Bones, the captain. The setting impacts Jim because the captains death was the second one Jim witnessed, after his own fathers. This brought out the man in him and led to his maturity.

Hispaniola

The Hispaniola is the ship that is used to reach Skeleton Island. This is where Jim overhears Silver about his deceivement while in an apple barrel.

Skeleton Island

Skeleton Island is one of the main settings of the book. This is where the treasure is located and many important events happen here.Jim also found Ben Gunn here.

The Stockade

The Stockade is the log shed on the island and it is a major setting where a lot of action takes place.

Jim Hawkins is the main character and the protagonist of Treasure Island.

The major characters of Treasure Island are Jim Hawkins-the main character, Billy Bones-the seafaring captain, Dr. Livesey-a smart and willy doctor who saved Mr Bones, Mr Trelawney-an arrogant squire who can't keep his mouth shut, Long John Silver-the pirate who pretended to be ship's cook, and acts as antagonist, Captain Smollett-a pessimistic but loyal man, and Ben Gunn-a starved sailor stranded on the island.

The major themes of Treasure Island are

Greed does not succeed.

Be careful who you trust.

Do good, and good will come.

Some people are evil.

I thought that the author did achieve his purpose, and that the author was successful.

I thought that some of the strengths and weaknesses of the book were...

Strengths:

Action Packed

Great Back Story

Good Plot

Weaknesses:

Slow at Times

Too Many Characters

(It Got Confusing)

Pirate Language

My overall response to the book was that it was exciting, and well-written.

I would recommend reading this book because it was entertaining, suspenseful, and overall a great book.
