Reaserch is currently being done connecting DID to early child hood abuse and sexual abuse.

Even though the diagnosis is not usually made until later in life, it is found to be much more common to have DID in people who were abused as a child.

  • Germany - .9%
  • Netherlands – 2%

DID is a very controversial disorder

  • People believe this disorder can be "faked" therefore it is a fake disorder
  • People are faking the symptoms of memory loss and gaining the memories back after treatment.
  • People are also skeptical about abuse being related to DID

DID in the future:

Future research for DID is planed to consist of determining the risk factor, clarify how genetic and environmental factor contribute to the diagnosis of DID and also for us to figure more out about the link of childhood abuse to DID.

Biological Factors

There are some Genetic tendencys but overall the disorder is not caused by that, it is linked to childhood abuse

Learning Factors

Kids can also become more accustomed to the disorder and may imitate some of the mannerisms of DID from seeing it in their parents.
