Okapis hstory

Also known as:

-forest giraffe

-zebra giraffe, located on Republic of Congo

The generic name Okapia derives from Lese Karo name o`api.

Harry Johnston is organized the expedition that first acquired an okapi specimen for science from the Ituri Forest in the Democratc Republic of the Kongo.

-most closely related to the giraffe

-oily, velvety fur coats

-reddish dark back, with striking horizontal white stripes on the front and back legs

that making them resemble zebras from a distance.

Tongue and ears

35 cm flexibile tongue used to strip leaves and buds from trees.Tongue is also long enough for the animal wash its ears inside and out.

Ears help them detect their predator
