Reclamation activities

Consol Energy Inc. expects the mine to be profitable for 9 years. Normally after a longwall mine is done businesses will fill the land and make ballparks, lakes, parks, trails, golf courses, and farmland. On the surface they will replace all rock and subsoil that they removed. They make sure the best material is on top. Companies in the end try to maintain the original contour of the land or plant crops.

Process Of Mining

~They use a conveyer belt to bring the coal back to the surface in order to process it. Since it is coal, the basic format is used instead of having to purify it like you would gold.

Equipment

~Armored face conveyors- One-sided trough scraper conveyor, the second side of the trough being formed by the coal face. Cut coal falls into this trough; The coal is dragged along the base plate by the flights.

~CST drive systems- Allows accurate load sharing

between up to three drive motors with excellent

extremely fast overload protection.

~Mining Controls

~Roof Support Character Sheers-Roof supports are installed to protect the miners.

~Variable Frequency Drive-VFDs are used in applications ranging from small appliances to the largest of mine mill drives and compressors.
