  • -If not, what do we do?

Practice Behaviors

Social workers:

  • Recognize & communicate their understanding of the importance of difference in shaping life experiences
  • Recognize the extent to which a culture's structures & values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhance privilege & power
  • View themselves as learners & engage those with whom they work as informants
  • Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases & values in working with the diverse groups

Diversity & Difference:

The Massachusetts Bail Fund

The mission of the Bail Fund is to create a more fair criminal justice system that allows all individuals to uphold their Fifth Amendment rights, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, and other intersections of their identities and environments.

Involvement with the criminal justice system can happen to anyone. However, men of color, women of color, and individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds are disproportionately represented in Massachusetts jails.

  • Why? What does this fact mean in terms of diversity and difference?
