Major Issues

Obama’s Democratic Stance: He was Prolife. His goal was to redistribute wealth via expanded government. He wanted more accountability in subprime mortgages. He has stood with Latino leaders for 20 years. He wanted racial equality. He wanted a $4000 tax credit for companies who hire unemployed workers. He wanted to end tax breaks that send jobs overseas.

McCain’s Republican Stance: He supported Prochoice. He also felt that Obama’s spending was committing generational theft, and proposed energy independence and tax cuts for all. He supported equal pay for equal work. Allow, but not mandate, school prayer. Felt we didn’t need laws against Spanish language or culture (wanted immigrants to join army). He didn’t support gay marriage; thought it “wasn’t okay”.

• Economy: Our economy is based on money, and quite frankly, Americans are scared to spend it. We are hoarding it because there isn’t much to invest in. Companies can’t survive without us purchasing or investing, so they shut down or fire workers, which results in a loss of jobs, which results in a loss of money and an increase in homeless Americans. America needs to encourage its citizens to spend, but wisely. Invest on things that are important. And America needs to lower the tax rate, because with the taxes so high, no one has any money to spend. The whole process is a big circle.
• Gay Marriage: I think America needs to make it legal. Not in individual states, but make it an amendment in the constitution. Couples, no matter if it’s a woman and a man, a man and a man, or a woman and a woman, should be allowed to be married.
• Abortion: It should not be the government’s business whether a woman decides to get an abortion or not. It is the woman’s body, and it should be her choice. America is split into two different opinions: prochoice, and prolife. I agree, you should not kill a child if you don’t have a good reason, but it should not be the government’s choice, and it’s not their business. The government should stay out

Third Party Candidates: The Constitution Party, The Green Party, Libertarian Party, and independent candidate Ralph Nader ran his own campaign.

Not much affect on election; didn’t receive a lot of votes.
