Lord of the Rings

Movies

In the lord of the rings trilogy, smeagol is an obvious trickster, in both the book and the movies. He tricks Frodo and Sam many times, sometimes without them even knowing it.

  • Tricksters are an underlying factor in many movies, especially comedies.
  • Tricksters are also used to convey a point.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Alice in Wonderland

The Cheshire Cat uses his logic to both manipulate and help Alice in her journey throughout Wonderland.

Cartoons

Jack Sparrow, the infamous pirate; plays more of a sly humorous type of trickster. He enjoys fooling people into getting what he wants.

The Dark Knight

"The Joker" in The Dark Knight, plays a dark and twisty sort of trickster; his main goal is to create chaos and anarchy.

  • Tricksters in modern day media are the base to most cartoons
  • without a trickster the cartoon wouldn't be funny

Tom and Jerry

In the cartoon show of Tom and Jerry is literally your classic cat and mouse chase. Tom is a house cat and Jerry is a mouse that lives in the walls of the house. Every episode Tom's pain plan is to be able to capture Jerry and eat him, as most cats do with mice. Jerry is a clever mouse and Tom can never seem to catch him no matter what kind of tricks he plays. In return Jerry also plays trick on Tom.

Bugs Bunny

  • Bugs bunny is your textbook definition of a trickster. He is known to play tricks on just about every cartoon character. The rabbit is known in modern day media all the way back to the early days of mythology. He is a quick and clever animal.
  • "He defies authority. He goes against the rules. But he does it in a way that's often lovable, and that often results in good things for the culture at large."
