Yazuka come from all walks of life, the most romantic version tells that the Yazuka accept sons who have been abandoned or exiled by their parents

Many Yazuka join in Middle or High school as common street thugs or Bosozuku (Motorcycle gangs). They must go through a painful full body tatoo process called irezumi, which is hand done with handmade needles made out of metal or sharpend bamboo, this can take many years to complete.

The Yakuza have three seprate syndicates. The Yamaguchi- gumi, The Sumiyoshi-kai, and The Inigawa-kai. While they are all yakuza, they are rivals. (think of it as a deadly sibling rivalry.)

The Yamaguchi are the largest, accounting for around 50% of all Yakuza in japan, with around 55,000 members. Their headquarters are located in Kobe, and directs Yakuza activity throughout japan, as well as Asia and The United States.

The Sumiyoshi are the second largest, with around 20,000 members. They have a looser chain of command, with multiple people in command. Their headquarters are in Tokyo.

The Inagawa-kai are the third largest, with around 15,000 members. They were on of the first to begin opperating overseas. Their headquarters are also in Tokyo. This group has actually done some good, during the 2011 Tohuku Earthquake and Tsunami, they donated 100 tons of supplys including Instant ramen, bean sprouts, paper diapers, batteries, flashlights, tea, and drinking water.

Conclusion

Origins of the Yakuza

In conclusion, stay away from these guys.

The Yakuza first originated in japan around the 17th century, they are believed to have been born from the Kabuki-Mono (another old crime syndicate).

The Yakuza in the United States are mainly based out of Hawaii and the West Coast. They have allied themselves with the Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese Triads.
