Second Quote Explanation
This quote relates to the story because the Giver encourages Jonas to leave to community behind. The Giver believes that Jonas leaving the community will bring the change that is needed in the community. The Giver loves Jonas and wants to help him bring the change that both he and Jonas believe is needed. When Jonas leaves the community, all of the memories transferred to him will all go back to everybody in the community, giving them all the knowledge Jonas had acquired. The Giver and Jonas want this to happen because they will learn about the joys of love and perhaps they will change their ways in their society of where all feelings are absent.
That quote is relevant to the novel because Jonas doesn't talk to his friends anymore. His assignment as Receiver prevents him from talking about his job to his friends. As said by Jonas, he feels his fun childhood days are over.
