I had a lot of ups and downs with this paper. In the end i feel it came out well. There were times when i didn't write for days and times where I wrote for hours. I was pleased to be writing on a topic that a large amount of people feel strongly about.
Some Ideas I have so far are to either petition the North Carolina Department of Public Education to lessen the amount of standardized tests administered in Schools; or to compare interviews between teachers and counselors about their oppinion on the support schools provide to start a student towards their dream career.
Many public high schools do not yet and need to support students who wish to follow a dedicated career path; schools spend excess money on preparation for standardized testing, students perform better when they enjoy the environment they are in, and the benefits of college are not growing with the cost.
School districts spend time asking for money and they spend it all on how the school looks. don't try to improve the learning environment, they just want to best the most productive. "The state government enacted a set of standardized controls to monitor children’s learning and teachers’ classroom behavior."
Currently public schools are not properly equipping students to be successful and happy in their futures. “Just 30% of employees are engaged and inspired at work, according to Gallup's 2013 State of the American Workplace Report, which surveyed more than 150,000 full- and part-time workers during 2012”(Grant).
