The Conflict
Jordan tells Nick that Gatsby is in love with Daisy.
Summary
The chapter starts off with Nick talking about all of the important and powerful people Gatsby likes to invite to his parties. Then Gatsby shows up at Nicks house and takes him to lunch and a ride around town. Gatsby starts talking about all his accomplishments. When they get to the party Jordan tells Nick that Gatsby wants him to invite both him and Daisy to his house so that he can talk to her.

"He's a bootlegger" (61) This quote shows the continuing mystery about who Gatsby really is, and the intrigue of people about it.
"look here old sport," he broke out surprisingly, "what's your opinion of me, anyhow?" (65) Gatsby is unsure of how Nick views him and is nervous about what he wants to tell him, which is that he is in love with Daisy
"She's not to know about it. Gatsby doesn't want her to know. You're just supposed to invite her to tea. (79) Here we learn that Gatsby wants Nick to arrange a "chance" meeting with Daisy at his house, so he can see her.
"I was able to do the commissioner a favor once, and he sends me a christmas card every year." (68) gatsby has connections to everyone who has some sort of power it seems.
"My family all died, and I came into a great deal of money" (65) Here Gatsby is telling Nick about his past and that he no longer has any family. But can we know for sure whether this is true?
