The Truman doctrine was a document created
by President Harry S. Truman to provide $400 million military and economic aid/assistance for Turkey and Greece. This was important because of Turkeys weak government (with the Soviets pressuring them) and the Greece having a collapsing economic and political system with communist rebel forces on the rise. The government felt that if these states fell than communism would spread south to Iran or even as far as east India (later created by Eisenhower as the Domino Theory)
