In my house, we read books in different languages. My parents read Bangla while me and my siblings read English or Bangla. My brother likes to read more articles than books which to me still counts as reading. I have yet to see my father read a book, not because he chooses not to but because he doesn't have the time to in his busy schedule. In my house the females read more then the males.
The first book I remember reading was when I was 5 and I was learning how to say my colors in English. But years after that I remember reading and learning a lot from a book called....
I like reading books of my own interest rather than being assigned a book.
This is because if I am not interested in what I'm reading,
then it would just be a waste to read.
sometimes being assigned to read a book can be interesting.
Once when I was assigned to read a book,
I ended up reading something I wouldn't have picked myself and really ended up liking it.
That book was called...
This year I decided to read
Emma and Josh are the two main characters in this book. The story takes place in Lake Forest, Pennsylvania during 1996. Emma Nelson and Josh Templeton have been next door neighbors their whole life and best friends for almost as long. However, their relationship changed one November and since then things have been awkward between the two.
It is important to know that in this story teenagers have not really been exposed to the interne much. And since Emma has never had an online account before, she does not really know how to react to it and Josh thinks of it as a prank. It is also important to understand that once the two find out about facebook and their future selves, they don’t have the same goals or act in the same way. This is helpful to know in order to understand the two characters more.
The genre of this book is Contemporary Fiction, since the book take place in 1996 but has aspects of future involved in it. When Emma wants to change her future, fifteen years from 1996, she relies on the changes she makes in 1996 to make her future self more happy. This leads into things she does not expect. And because of the alternation of 1996 to 2011 it makes the book more interesting to read and connect to.
The book’s chapters alternate between the two main characters, which allows me to know the perspective of the story from both characters. Through out the book there is a lot of dialect that helps visualize characters interacting with each other. The author is very descriptive about the things that occur around the characters. Also the book has many interactions showing how the things Emma does in present time reflect to Facebook's time.
This short part shows how Emma can just refresh her Facebook page and see the new changes she has made in her future life.
This book is written from the point of view of two main characters, Emma and Josh, which alternates. Both of the point of views are written in first person, allowing the story to be told as a whole. I really like when a story is told in the first person, it allows me to relate to the book better because it gives me the feeling of actually being in the book.
Based on the way the story is structured I thought it was a really good choice to write the story from the perspective of two character, though this thought only came to me after finishing the whole book. This is because the two are tied into one big mess but have very different perspective on things.
Through out the beginning of the book there were many flashbacks. The introduction of Josh’s character starts with a flashback and then another flashback describes the relationship between Josh and Emma.
The flashbacks help to better understand the history behind the story. And how those flashbacks support the present story.
In this book Emma is the kind of character that cares more about herself. After Facebook enter her life, she ends up focusing more on her future than living in present time.
Through facebook she sees that the changes she makes in present time can change her future as well. However she prefers to be happier in the future but doesn’t take into account that her actions in present time is causing her future to be messed up as well.
In this book Josh has the characteristics of staying calm and thinking things through before taking action.
His character is what keeps both Emma and the book from going crazy. If Josh agreed to all the actions Emma wanted to take to make her future life much happier, he would have caused more problems.
After looking back at a history of my reading I learned that I enjoy reading books that I normally would not think of reading such as having a book that may be challenging for me. I also learned that it's really not that hard to find time to read in a busy schedule, you just have to be determined.
I as a child was always reading because reading was an escape for me and very peaceful and it still is. I could not really go out and play with my friends so a book was that friend that took me on adventures, without having to move.
Before, Persepolis I had never read graphic novels. And after reading it I learned that I really like reading graphic novels.
Emma receives a desktop computer, send by her father, with Windows 95. Josh’s family also receive something, they receive a free AOL CD-ROM and his mother makes him take it over to Emma. Josh and Emma install it in her computer where she creates an account and logs in. After signing in, they are immediately logged onto Facebook, when Facebook had not been invented yet. The two discovered themselves fifteen years in the future. Josh is unaware of what to do so he decides not to mess with his future. Emma, on the other hand, is worried about her happiness in the future and does anything thinkable to fix her life in the future. However things don’t seem to go as planned.
This book was assigned to me as a summer reading assignment. I really didn't want to read it because at the time I had kind of lost my interest in reading, I read the book anyway. At the time I was in 6th grade so this book taught me about things I was not yet educated about. I thought this book was good for a young girl to read before she goes through the physical changes in her body.
Me and
my reading
Before the story starts, there is a page that sums up what is going to happen in the book overall.
The story uses the setting of 1996 and 2011, both of which are very important time period in the setting. In 1996, Emma’s room and her school are the two most important settings. Her room has the computer that allows her to see the future and the school is where the other half of the story happens.
