Observational Study

By: Michaela Parks

Part 4:

Methodology- The only survey question I asked was 'what is your favorite type of chips to buy when shopping?'. I collected the data by walking down the chip isle and asking ONLY 5 people every hour from opening to closing times. I would give them either Lays, Doritos, Cheetos, or other kinds of chips to choose from when picking.

Part 4:

Intro- The purpose of this survey was to determine whether advertising is part of the reason why most people buy big brand names like Lays, Doritos, or Cheetos.

Part 2:

What are different peoples favorite type of chips to buy when shopping? I chose to conduct the survey at my city's local Publix supermarket. There is an approximate number of 400 customers daily. So I asked 5 people each hour, between 7 a.m.-10 p.m., which is a total of 75 customers, what chips they like and buy the most.

Part 3: Survey-

Lays (assorted kinds)- 22

Doritos (assorted kinds)- 21

Cheetos (assorted kinds)- 15

Other Chips-17

(I chose Lays, Doritos and Cheetos because they are the most common chips advertised whether by TV, online, or newspaper ads.)

Part 1:

I was recently having a discussion with my family about the most popular chips that people buy when going to the grocery store. We each had different answers and concluded that maybe advertising has something to do with it. Whether watching a tv show or commercials, different chip brands are advertised. So in conclusion, I took it into my own hands to see if the most popular chips bought correlates with advertising.

Part 4:

Conclusion- From my study, I found that the most popular chips bought were Lays, which is the most advertised brand. Followed by Doritos, other chip label, and then Cheetos. So it turns out, advertisements of chips does correlate with what chips are bought the most from customers.
