Materials for the Elizabeth Tower came from all over the United Kingdom:
cast iron girders from Regent's Canal Ironworks (London, England) were used
Yorkshire, Anston (England) stone and Cornish (England) granite were used on the exterior
a West Midlands, Birmingham (England) foundry supplied the Elizabeth Tower's iron roofing plates
Used stone from Caen, Normandy (France) in it, which is a big deal because historically THE BRITS AND THE FRENCH NEVER ENDED THEIR WARS AND HATED EACH OTHER.
East Midlands?, Clipsham, Rutland (for restoration work in 1983-5)
Construction of the Clock Tower began in September 1843. This is the iconic tower which stands today in the Houses of Parliament.
It was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May, with the Great Bell's strikes heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September.
The clock chimed throughout the Blitz of World War II despite the bombing of the House of Commons Chamber
Big Ben is the most notable and Famous structural in the UK (That was built with modern engineering, Aka Stone Henge doesn't count). It's used is most of the opening shots if you are going to or are at the city of London on a TV show or movie.
WW2, during the war England (Mostly London) received heavy bombing, which the germans were hoping would break their will for war and force them to surrender, but they did not. One of the key players in this was Big Ben. The sound of Big Ben was broadcasting across the UK, because it was a national symbol and even with the bombing it just kept ticking. This supposedly helped the british people keep their morale high because of the fact that even though the house of commons was destroyed, Big Ben kept doing it's job which helped the british do their job even after being bombed. Because of this I believe that Big Ben is a momentum through it's emotional impact through the war and after it.
The Monument Known As Big Ben, the Great Clock, and the Elizabeth Tower.
