This Nike 'Just Do It' commercial is all about self reliance. This is part of Transcendentalism. A quote from

Ralph Waldo Emerson's self reliance essay shows this. 'Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string'. This

is saying to be confident, and rely on yourself. You can't always rely on other people to do something for you, so do

it yourself. This Nike commercial is saying challenge yourself. If you challenge yourself, you'll improve. That's the same as self reliance. You have to do it yourself, or it might not get done. You won't improve if someone else does it. You earn reverence for yourself in return.

Dr. Pepper

"One of a kind"

This song touches on the concept of individualism. In the song, Fiasco is telling people to do what they want, and not just do what everyone else does, regardless of their situation. Transcendentalists strived to be different from everyone else. This song suggests people should just live their own lives and be themselves. Emerson's famous quote "Trust thyself; every heart vibrates to that iron string", really comes out in Fiasco's song. Trust yourself, do what you want because you can do it, and live your life how you want to live it.

Transcendentalism has to do with the belief in individualism which connects to the Dr. Pepper commercial. From Henry David Thoreau's essay "Economy" he quotes "it appears as if men had deliberately chosen the common mode of living because they preferred it to any other. Yet they honestly think there is no choice left." This shows how you don't have to follow the same life path as everyone else but everyone is "one of a kind" and different. The world is full of manifold people and they are all different in some way.

The Show Goes on

by Lupe Fiasco

"So no matter what you've been through, no matter what you into, No matter what you see when you outside your window, Brown grass or green grass, picket fence or barbed wire, Never ever put them down, just put your arms higher".

Fireflies by Owl City

'You would not believe your eyes

If ten million fireflies

Lit up the world as I fell asleep'.

Transcendentalism is also about Nature, and that's what we get in the song 'Fireflies' by Owl City. When I think of Nature, I think of a forest with animals in it. In 'Fireflies', it's talking about laying on the grass at night while watching the fireflies as well as the stars and falling asleep. In Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay 'Nature', there is a line that says, 'But if a man would be alone, let him look at the stars'. This is what is happening in the song. Throughout Emerson's essay, he describes nature as having great sanctity, 'Fireflies' also does this throughout the song.

Till I Collapse By Eminem

Transcendentalism also relates more to spiritual than logical. Eminem uses this well in one of his verses in his song "Till I Collapse". Eminem says, "The spirit of god lives in us." This shows that god is within all of us even though this isn't logical. It is spiritual with the belief in god. One of Emerson's quotes that relates to this is, "All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen." This quote relates to Eminem's, because Emerson is calling "God" the creator and saying that everything god created in good and Eminem is saying that god is in everyone. God created all of us and in that way he is in all of us. Everyone has some sort of sanctity in them because of god.
