Munchhausen by Proxy, or Factitious Disorder by Proxy, is a subset of a factitious disorder, which is a subset of a somatic disorder.

In his 2002 song, "Cleaning Out My Closet," rapper Eminem accuses his mother of having Munchhausen syndrome by proxy with the lyrics: "Going through public housing systems, victim of Munchhausen syndrome. My whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't…"

Some believe that people with Factitious Disorder by Proxy are just trying to get attention from either medical staff or what amount of friends they have left.
