On April 2nd, 1862, the Confederate States are formed when seven states secede from the Union. Lincoln's worst fear has come true; secession. Along with secession came the inevitable obstacle of civil war, and Abraham Lincoln was forced to face it. Lincoln was possibly the greatest leader to have during this time, as he managed to keep the Union united and, eventually, lead the Union to victory (1865). With this essential victory came the re-instatement of the seceded states back into the Union, and, once again, the United States became a whole.
The Emancipation Proclamation was a presidential proclamation and executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. In a single stroke, it changed the federal legal status of more than 3 million enslaved persons in the designated areas of the South from "slave" to "free". This is widely considered to be Lincoln's greatest achievement.
The election of 1860 was an intense one. With the issue of slavery and the threat of Southern secession, the candidates had a lot to deal with. Luckily, the ideal man was elected; Abraham Lincoln won the election of 1860 and became the 16th president of the United States.
Another essential achievement of Abraham lincoln was his approval of the Transcontinental Railorad. The railroad would spam from east to west and spur westward expansion and industrialism in the U.S. like nothing before. But, none of this would have been possible without Lincoln's signing of the Pacific Railroad Bill, which put the federal government behind the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, in July of 1862.
