On August 1886, Mudgett moved to Chicago and became known as H. H. Holmes.
In 1886, Holmes claimed his first murder victim, his former friend Robert Leacock. Robert was murdered for his insurance money of $4o,ooo.
From the beginning of his childhood, Holmes had an unusual intelligence and often dissected animals.
On January 28, 1887, Holmes, while still married to Clara, married Myrta Belknap.
A Few weeks after, Holmes tried to fill for divorce it was never finalized.
He was often bullied as a child. Once, he was forced to stare at a skeleton in a doctors office.
Holmes had a fear of doctors, iatrophobia.
When Holmes was 16, graduated from high school.
Herman Webster Mudgett was born on May 16, 1861 in Gilmanton, New Hampshire.
On this day, Holmes starts killing Pitzel's's children, starting with his son Howard. Howard was chopped up, burned in a kiln and then sold off.
After Howard's death, Holmes burns Pitzel's two daughters alive and then buries them.
On August 19, 1895, Holmes murder castle erupts into flames, the cause is unknown.
He is put on trial for the murder of Benjamin Pitzel and confessed to 27 murders in Chicago and 6 attempted murders
On May 17, 1896, Holmes was hanged at Moyamensing Prison. His neck did not snap immediately; he instead died slowly, twitching for over 15 minutes until being pronounced dead.
He requested he be buried in concrete so that no one would ever dissect his body like he did to so many others. His wish was granted.
On November 17, 1894, Holmes is arrested in Boston.
On June 3, 1895, Holmes is tried for conspiracy to defraud an insurance company , on his attorneys advice (because the sentence would be lighter) he pleads guilty

Holmes fakes his own death to claim a $20,000 from insurance. The insurance company becomes suspicious and refuses to pay. He is not phased and then tries to make Pitzel to fake his own death for $10,000 in insurance. Holmes made an agreement with Pitzel to find a cadaver to act as his corpse. Holmes lied and burried Pitzel alive.

When Holmes was 19, he attended the University of Vermont, and soon left after one year.

Holmes then attended the University of Michigan Department of Medicine and Surgery in 1882
In Holmes second year in the University of Michigan, he stole cadavers and disfigured bodies to claim insurance money on their deaths claiming they were killed in an accident.
On June 24, 1884, Holmes obtained his doctorate and graduated from the University of Michigan.
In 1888, Holmes and Clara had a son named Robert Lovering Mudgett.
On July 4, 1889, Holmes and Myrta had a daughter named Lucy Theodate Holmes

In 1893, during the Columbian Exposition,Holmes opened up his home as a hotel for visitors.
