King Arthur Pendragon

While researching for the Pendragons, I knew that I would end up with the most information if I were to do my 5 paragraphs on King Arthur. So, I found information on him, regarding his early life, his life as the British king in the late 400s as well as his life later into his life up til his death. So, without further ado let me introduce you to the one and only Arthur Pendragon.

Arthur Pendragon was born to King Urthr Pendragon and Queen Igraine Pendragon in C.E. 485. Sadly, young. Arthur was soon orphaned and sent away with the wizard Merlin whom adopted him out to Sir Ector, his wife, and their son Kay to be raised in the country. Arthur grows up completely unaware of his real parents and future destiny. That is until a few years later when St. Paul’s Cathedral is suddenly holding a block of marble and an anvil with a sword sticking out of it. It also contains a message suggesting that whoever pulls out the sword gets to be king, (because Uther died). Sadly, nobody is able to free the sword from the stone. One handy day, Kay (Arthur's adoptive brother) is around town to compete in a tournament but forgets his sword. Arthur is sent to get it but tumbles upon the the sword in the stone and easily pulls it free. And, after a bit of a dispute, Arthur is crowned king of Britain. Now what will he do?

Well, now Arthur has to prove to the rest of the leaders that he really is a Pendragon and the rightful heir. In this time, Arthur wins his first war and proves all doubts wrong. This time was very eventful for Arthur because he also fell in love with his married aunt and they had a child together named Modred (Mordred). After that incident Arthur figures he should get married and goes to Merlin for advice. He asks whether or not he should pick Gwynevere [Guinevere] to be his bride. And despite Merlin's warnings saying she’s to love Launcelot [Lancelot] and the whole thing will end in disaster, Arthur marries her. Her dad gave them a round table with 50 seats and magical nameplates at every seat that dictate who gets to sit there as a wedding gift. The table is very useful to Arthur throughout his life. In fact, he spends loads of time tracking down all the knights meant to sit there. All throughout this time, Arthur fights many battles against his half sister and the Romans.

Later in life, Merlin's warning comes back to haunt Arthur. His wife Gwynevere is caught cheating on him with his head knight Sir Launcelot. But, he really knew all along so he wasn't to upset and was quite forgiving. Even though he was willing to forgive everyone, his knights were totally against that proposition. Because of that, Arthur went to battle with Launcelot and at the end of the fight, Launcelot was banished and fled to France. About a year after this incident, Arthur decided he missed his old pal Launcelot. Due to that, he went to France to visit him, leaving his son Modred in charge. While Arthur was away, Modred decided he rather enjoyed sitting upon the thrown so, he plotted against King Arthur. He sent himself a letter claiming that King Arthur had been killed in France and he was to immediately take the throne. Well, when Arthur heard this news, he wasn't to thrilled. He immediately left France and returned home. He and his son totally duke it out and set a date to sign a peace treaty. But, when things go down hill Modred ends up dead and Arthur very injured. So he goes to Avalon to heal himself but dies shortly after his arrival.

So to sum things up, King Arthur was a very powerful and influential man who may of may not have existed. But, nevertheless he is still thought back on in his early years for the famous "sword in the stone". Looked up to in his years as king as a mighty ruler. Also, he is sympathized with over his tragic death in later life. And that ladies and gentlemen is my summed up life story of King Arthur.
