30 Seconds Over Tokyo

By Capt. Ted W. Lawson

Favorite Part

My favorite part of the book was when the Chinese built papier-mache planes and put them by an airport. The Japanese thought they were real and wasted a lot of bombs and ammo on them for no reason.

Why do you like it so much?

I liked it so much because it made me think that even in a time of crisis the Chinese were never in fear. They were more strategic and fun for this event.

Text Evidence

On this page a Chinese alarm sounded and when Ted found out what it meant, the Japanese were coming, he rushed from the table. A AVG man said borely "Keep your seats, the planes have only taken off.". meaning he wasn't scared or provocted at the crisis and even when the alarm sounded faster they stayed untill it wasn't safe. pg.190

How did it make you feel?

It made me feel happy and made me laugh for a long time.

Text Evidence

"They also showed me what I thought was a string of P-40's on one edge of the field, they were papier-mache.". "The Chinese had made them for the Tigers and the Japs wasted alot of bullets and bombs on them.". pg.212

Purpose

Why do you think the author wrote this book?

I think the author wrote this book to tell people about the experience and story he had when doing the first raid on japan. Text Evidence: The whole book shows the experience and story of the raid. In the front of the book he said he wanted to tell you the story. pg.1-235

Where did s(he) get the idea?

He got the idea from his real life experiences of the raid on Japan. Text Evidence: It says in the text "I helped bomb Tokyo on the Doolittle raid of April 18, 1942.". pg.3

What message is the author trying to share?

He is trying to share that even if hardships and obstacles are in the way you can overcome them. Text Evidence: When Ted and his crew crashed the Chinese helped them through it all with respect and loyalty. pg.100
