Warner Brothers is a subsidiary of Time Warner as well as Warner brothers itself having several subsidiaries such as Warner Brothers picture, Warner Brothers television, Warner Brothers animation and more. Time Warner owns other companies in the film industry; however Warner Brothers is the most successful company making it very well known with a good reputation and earning the most money. Warner Brothers will make sure our film is a success as they have created many other thriller films that were very successful due to their experience and impact in the film industry. Warner Brothers own a range of different films including very successful films such as The Dark Knight Rises and Harry Potter with all its previous films. These films were so successful around the world that helped boost up Warner Brothers success and reputation. They produced around 3000 films with the majority being very popular within the audience, creating success. Another reason why Warner Brothers would be a great choice as a distribution company is because they include interesting story lines that differ from typical endings and plot, they go against stereotypes and target a large audience to make sure their film is a success. This is very similar to our own thriller film as we go against the stereotype and use a female protagonist. We also tried to create an interesting story line, however thriller films such as obsessed and Taken included a similar storyline making our storyline something seen in previous films. On the other hand our storyline may have been similar to others but we tried to change a few aspects by using a baby as it would be so much more effective and also having shown the mother as a single mum. We couldn’t use any famous actors as we didn’t have a large enough budget and our film is quite small making it harder to gain funding.
Warp films is an independent film production company based in London. Although it’s an independent company it’s also very successful. Since this production company is independent it focuses on producing low budget films with controversial storylines. Warps films funding is set up with NESTA which allowed the company to develop a bit more but their films are produced digitally as it’s much cheaper, allowing them to spend the rest of the funding on other aspects of the film. However being an independent comes with benefits such as creating films with specific genres without drawing a large audience and having controversial storylines as Warp film does. Warp Films could be a good choice to make as our production company because they don’t have a large budget like us to pay for famous actors or use special effects. On the other hand Warp films could also not be a good choice as they have small budget resulting in less connections and resources in order to make their films successful. This isn’t a good choice to make for our thriller film as success isn’t guaranteed.
Distribution companies are responsible for this release. A distribution company can be a conglomerate, meaning it has a larger budget that can be used to distribute the product in different ways which attracts a larger audience. On the other hand it can be an independent company who don't have that amount of money and so they aren't able to spend a lot on the distribution of the product which results to a smaller audience.
As you can see through the points I made about how our thriller film is similar to films that Warner Brothers produces, we decided that this production company is a beneficial choice. Firstly they are owned by a large conglomerate allowing connections and resources easily accessible resulting to success. Also they have great experience in thriller films such as Se7en and Inception. We took influence from Se7en when creating our title sequence as it allowed the audience to know a little about the sub genre of the film and created very effective opening credits that added to our thriller genre. Furthermore Warner Brothers likes to produce films with interesting story lines and they like to go against stereotypes, which is exactly what we did in our thriller film 'The Search'. We went against the stereotype and used a female protagonist which created a much more effective story line as the audience is able to sympathise more as she is a single mum having to face these real life changes and situations alone.
When we started thinking of a name and logo to represent our production company, we thought of incorporating a bit of our group members personalities within the name and logo. To do this we asked each other what our favorite colors were and we ended up with the colours blue and black. Instead of using every letter in each word we abbreviated it, resulting to 'BLU & BLCK'. Then we started sketching quick designs to visualise how we can put it into a logo. We also thought of adding yellow to our logo as we were inspired by Warner Brothers logo.
We improved our logo due to the audience feedback we obtained that is presented on our blog. This improved logo still includes the same name and colours for our production company, however we took away the colour yellow as they said it looked budget. We added a black background to create a more professional look and created a very clean and improved logo.
