"Kids love to review my rotten report cards and laugh out loud at a slide show involving 4 cats and a funeral. Teachers love the 'Seed Box' filled to the brim with a magical collection of 'Junk' to inspire the writer in all of us. Everyone loves to watch 'Don Juan Skippito Bumblito the Great Sword Fighter' come to life with pencil and paper. By the end of the day we all believe that the stories in our own lives are worth writing about."
This book is about Emma, a girl who loved to dress up as animals from the stories she read. She especially loved to be a red fox. She wore fox ears and a tail everyday. In preparation for World Discovery Day Emma's class had to prepare a speech about a famous explorer of the past. Emma chose a viking named Erik the Red... she called him Erik the Red Fox. Emma went to the library everyday after school to do research. she soon became friends with the librarian who was sort of a viking expert. One day Mr. Sigurd the librarian showed Emma an ad in the paper which said viking ship for sale. She knew her parents wouldn't pay $7,000 for a viking ship so Emma and her brother Ollie got their piggy banks together and decided to write a letter. The letter worked and in the end the man brought the ship and all of Emma's friends boarded the ship. Emma brought her journal aboard the ship and began to draw her ship in an adventure she created with Eric the Red in it.
