Power Station

Power Station

Step 6

The final step is for a transformer to convert electric energy onto high voltage. The national grid uses high voltages to get electricity to travel through power lines to homes.

Power Station

Step 3

Step 4

This pressure drives the steam over the blades which then causes it to spin. This means that the heat energy in the boiler turns into mechanical energy.

A shaft connects the steam turbine to the generator. Electromagnetic is what the generator uses to turn this mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Power Station

Step 5

Next the steam meets with pipes of cold water. This means that the cold water can cool the steam until it can become water again. after that it heats u and turns into steam again. This keeps the turbine spinning.

Power Station

First Step

Power Station

Coal is ground first to turn it into small particles of powder. This means that it can be blown into the boiler so that it can be burnt and formed into heat energy. The powder increases its surface area. This makes it burn faster and become hotter.

Step 2

Burning coal doesn't just produce heat. It also produces ash and gasses which goes the bottom of the boiler and is then removed. The burning coal causes water in the pipes to heat up. This means that the water turns into steam. The hot steam moves into pipes This causes it to be under high pressure.

Who created Power Station

Thomas Edison invented the first power station in Manhattan New York. 1868 was when the first power station was designed. But it was Thomas Edison who built the first public power station in 1882. He worked along side his partner Edward Johnson.
