INTPs' are very logical and intelligent rather than emotional. They can make decisions while keeping a level head. They can find it difficult to find and maintain relationships or make friends but once they do make relationships they last for a long time.

INTPs tend to gravitate toward professions like mathematicians, systems analysts, and career scientists, especially in more abstract fields such as physics because they want to be independent and to have the ability to become fully immersed in their projects or ideas. They prefer workplaces with flatter hierarchies like fields such as law, forensics, and laboratory research because overbearing managers or office parties are seen as burdens. INTPs handle theoretical situations and data better than actual interaction with others.

INTPs don't normally feel the need to make friends, but if they share a common interest or train of thought with someone, they will likely become good friends with an intellectual connection. They don't like communicating unless it is about something important or intellectual so INTPs tend not to make friends with those who have different opinions or who can't keep up with them. INTP friends are not the best to approach with emotional issues because while they too have strong emotions, they keep them in check with logic and reason. Overall, INTPs make intellectually-stimulating, intelligent, and reliable friends.

INTPs work best with a partner because they are constantly sharing ideas that could go unnoticed if someone is not there to talk to or work with. INTPs usually don't make good subordinates because they despise "grunt work" and require a lot of freedom in order to innovate and create. They don't typically like social situations with colleagues but do enjoy riddles and providing insight to others. As managers, INTPs give their employees a great deal of freedom but hold them to the very high standards they set for themselves.

INTPs love sharing their ideas and theories, so they make very excited, enthusiastic, and playful partners who flirt with word-play and intellectual games. They can, however, be shy and wait for a romantic interest to make the first move. INTPs can also have difficulty noticing others' emotions and wants, and they can forget that others may need big gestures and special planning because they do not.

While INTPs have difficulty understanding and relating to emotional and irrational children, they are devoted parents committed to helping their child to grow up to be intelligent and confident. INTP parents are not strict and allow their children freedom to explore the world around them without enforcing strict rules or dictating what path they should take. Instead they focus on sharing knowledge of why things are the way they are and make sure their children think about if the path they are on is right for them. While INTP parents are perfect for mature, intellectual conversations with their children, they often rely on their partner to take care of children in need of emotional support.

INTPs are generally quite withdrawn, seeing their surroundings or other people as intrusions. They can also be seen as insensitive or condescending because emotions and connections with other people are difficult for them, causing communication to be confusing and, at times, considered rude by others. INTPs hate rules and always try to forge their own way rather than following the conventional guidelines which can lead to lack of security or unnecessary difficulties. Finally, INTPs can be very self-conscious and doubt themselves, leading them to never commit to a decision.

INTPs are very good at analyzing data and finding patterns or connections in the world. They are very imaginative and love to think up new ideas or innovations, often leaving them lost in daydreams.
