What was the catalyst of the decline Shogunate?

What made the Tokugawa shogunate so powerful in the first place?

One of the main reasons was when the Americans wanted to open up Japan to trade. After threatening the shogun, the shogun agreed to open up Japan to the United States.

The shogun signed the treaty because he was threatened by the American warships.

The shogun finally signed the treaty.

Answer- It was the way they achieved stability not only

in their economy but in other aspects too.

Reasons: They did this through freezing a specific social order which prohibited mobility between the different classes.

Evidence: Their trades were thriving.

What did the people do after the decline of the Shogunate?

Was anything done to try and stop the decline of the Tokugawa shogunate? If so, what?

Thank You

Answer: Yes, the shogun tried to stop it. However

it didn’t work.

Reasons: At first he resigned, however after the emperor ordered him to give up his land. He refused.

Evidence: He took an army against the western clans who wanted to bring power back to the imperial court.

After the fall of the Shogunate, Japan was then

overthrown by the Meiji leaders. Together, they changed many laws in Japan.

The Meiji leaders ruled Japan because the Shogunate was over.

The laws changed when the Meiji leaders came and the Shogunate left.

Was feudal Europe’s decline different?

Who caused the catalyst which led to the decline of the Shogunate?

Answer: Yes, it was different.

Reasons: Unlike the tokugawa shogunate, it mostly collapsed on itself. Yes there were people that were unhappy with it but this is a situation where things just started to change and evolve on its own and Feudalism just couldn’t keep up.

Evidence: For example the black death was nobodies’ doing, it just happened, and as the population was reduced labour became more valuable. It was apparent that a new system would have to take Feudalism’s place.

Commodore Perry was the person who

caused the catalyst which led to the decline

of the Shogunate.

Commodore Perry threatened to attack Japan if they didn’t open up.

Japan finally opened up and the Shogunate declined.
