Coral Reef Food Chain

Decomposers

The Food Chain

Fan worms, sea cucumbers, snails, crabs, bristle worms and bacteria are decomposers. Decomposers are the top of the food chain because they eat the top predators when they die and the carcass falls to the bottom. They help rebuild the producers to start the food chain cycle again.

Top Predators

The top predators in the food chain eat the primary and secondary consumers they're the second on the food chain and are usually the main predators in the reef. They can include reef sharks, back-tipped reef sharks, white-tipped sharks, tiger sharks and manta rays. Top predators are usually carnivores.

Secondary & Tertiary Consumers

Producers are at the bottom of the food chain. The producers are zooxanthellae, sponges, seaweed, corraline algea, plankton, marine worms and phytoplankton. The producers make the source of food for the consumers and are very important to keep the ecosystem going.

Primary Consumers

Secondary and Tertiary Consumers

Secondary Consumers are above the primary consumers on the food chain. They're either carnivores or omnivores. They include larger reef fishes such as barramundi, trigger fish but also lobsters, sea turtles and surgeon fish which are more commonly known as Dory from Finding Nemo or Finding Dory as Dory is a Blue Tang Surgeon fish.

The food chain makes up all the animals in the great barrier reef. I have demonstrated the food chain with this prezi because each circle holds up one another and if one of them leaves they all tumble away just like the food chain in the great barrier reef.

Primary consumers are above the producers on the food chain. They're herbivores so they only eat plants like the producers. Parrot fish, zooplankton, coral polyps, starfish, mollusks, sea urchins and smaller fish are all primary consumers.
