There are 3 main schools of thought when it comes to discipline in the classroom. Each has a slightly different style from the teacher and different people that support their use.

The Guiding Model:

- Teacher exerts a low degree of control within standards.

- Similar to the Personal discipline model.

- Proponents: Haim Ginott, Rudolf Dreikurs, and Frederick H. Jones

The Intervening Model:

- Teacher and students develop rules and procedures jointly.

- Similar to the Social and Environmental discipline models.

- Proponents: J. C. Coleman, W. Doyle, D. K. Osborne, J. D. Osborne, and Alison Wolfe

The Intervening Model

- Teacher manages the behavior of individuals.

- Similar to Behavioral discipline model.

- Proponents: Lee Canter, Marlene Canter, and B. F. Skinner
