1830- Congress passed Indian Removal Act.

June,1838- Indians ushered from their homes, futher removal aborted due to the drought.

April, 1838- Congress tables petitions protesting removal and Fed. troops prepare for removal of the Indians in what is now the Southeast United States.

September, 1838- Drought breaks, Cherokee prepare to embark on forced relocation to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

October, 1838- For most Trail of Tears begins.

January 1939- First overland Indian group arives at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

May, 1838- Roundup begins, south suffers worst drought in recored history.

August, 1838- John Ross takes charge as leader of removal, Leads Cherokee to relocation of Oklahoma.

Feb/Mar/Apr- Indians and American Citizens Petition congress.

1838

December 1838- John Ross leaves Cherokee homeland with last group, 5,000 trapped east due to the harsh weather, Many died.

March, 1939- Last group reaches Oklahoma. more then 3,000 died on Trail of Tears,1,600 in stockades, and 800 more die in Oklahoma in 1839.
