Since 1950, Haiti has been in political unrest with only two presidents serving full terms. This happens because of the high levels of poverty in Haiti that government officials abuse their power. Haiti is the poorest country in the west and has suffered from countless leaders using all resources to fund them so they can live a life of luxury.
In 2010, an earthquake hit Haiti, destroying its cities and placing the country in a more impoverished position than it has ever been. Then a devastating cholera outbreak occurred thrusting Haiti back in the need of world aid.
The issue with the conflict is that although international aid would help Haiti a lot and has helped Haiti, most of it is being bottlenecked and stolen by government officials. Since political corruption has existed before, uprisings were bound to happen and have.
The way to end the on-going conflict is easiest by force, supporting the citizens who have been wronged by the government. Another resolution could be by putting sacntions on Haiti and hand delevering the aid so the Haitian government can not get involved.
Haiti is in desperate need of a structural reworking, that must be paid for by the international community. Also truth commissions could be used to document the atrocities committed and make sure that those guilty get some form of punishment that may not be death or life in prison.
The U.S. is playing a big role in this, due to how close this is to the U.S. border. The U.S. and other NGO have been delivering aid to Haiti and the citizens directly to make sure the corrupt system does not take it in.
The Haitian government is the other local actor in this conflict. They are the ones who are opposing the citizens in their quest for basic human rights and world aid that is desperately needed. The government is also in control of all riot police so they are directly fighting against citizens.
Most of Haiti's society is made up of lower class workers who after the earthquake had lost almost everything. They asked for aid from the international community to only find it being abused by the government, angering everyone.
