Nick moved into a cottage next to Gatsby's mansion. He finally attends one of Gatsby's parties (through invitation) & meets Gatsby.
On the way home Myrtle Wilson, Tom's mistress, sees the familiar yellow car & jumps out in front of it. Daisy unfortunately does not see her & hits Myrtle, killing her instantly.
Daisy & Tom attend one of Gatsby's parties for the first time together. Daisy decided to spend her time there with Gatsby rather than Tom. Tom becomes suspicious about who Gatsby really is.
Tom & Daisy did not attend Gatsby's funeral.
Nick discovers that Tom is still oblivious to the fact that it was Daisy who killed Myrtle & Daisy is acting as if Gatsby death was in vein and irrelevant.
Daisy wants to go to town with Gatsby, but Tom refuses to allow it. Then, Tom develops an eerie feeling about Gatsby & Daisy's relationship & decides that a trip to town may expose the truth. Tom tells Gatsby to take his yellow luxury car.
Tom is ignorant to the fact that it was Daisy who accidentally killed Myrtle, George's wife. Tom reveals to George that it is Jay who owns that yellow car & George shoots Gatsby.
Nick is reunited with his rich cousin, Daisy, and is surprised to see how luxurious her home is. Nick also finds out about Tom's affair through a phone call.
Daisy lies for Gatsby & tells Tom that she never loved him. Gatsby discovers Daisy's true feelings and who they are towards. A dramatic argument breaks out, "exposing" Gatsby's person & criminal behavior that has not been proven to be true.
Gatsby attends this dinner in order to stay as close to Daisy as possible & to get her to confess to Tom that she will be leaving him for Gatsby.
Gatsby finally sees Daisy again after the was, which lasted a long time. (Before the war Gatsby was poor.) He is still obsessed and dramatically in love with Daisy & Daisy claims to be in love with him as well. However he is scared to touch her.
