3. Democratic rights

-It’s important to me because I have a decision in who leads our country and what I want the government to improve in our society

-if I don’t vote I don’t get to choose

-Canadian citizens have to be 18 to vote; knowing the back story/ objectives of who you are voting for

4. Mobility rights

2. Fundamental freedoms

-It’s important to me because expressing myself and my views is what makes me an individual

-without inciting a hateful or violent expression or partaking in slander of another person

-knowing your parameters of your fundamental rights (knowingly committing a crime)

-It’s important to me because I’m not restricted to one part of the country and am free to live wherever if I have sufficient funds to do so

-if you’ve committed a crime you may not be allowed to leave the province you’re in or leave Canada

-not abusing these rights, and knowing about travel or immigration guidelines

The five rights I have chosen are : guarantee of rights and freedoms, fundamental freedoms, democratic rights, mobility rights, and legal rights.

My points go in the order of: why said right is important to me, restrictions or limitations on said right, and then the responsibilities that go with the right.

5. Legal Rights

1.Guarantee of rights and freedoms

-It’s important to me because having a fair trial and being presumed innocent until proven guilty is much fairer than being sentenced to the death penalty

-If you are caught in the act or have plead guilty then your legal rights change slightly; if your rights aren’t read to you immediately upon arrest then they can’t detain you for more than 24 hours

-knowing that you are entitled to an attorney and if you cannot afford one then one will be appointed to you

-It’s important to me because I have the right as a person to do anything within the law without discrimination, opposition or sexism to stop me

-there are not really any restrictions or limitations to this charter

-being aware of what the reasonable limits are on your rights and freedoms.

Why is Democracy Important to Me?
