Odysseus was floating out in the sea on a wooden plank when he began to approach the waters of Charybdis (who 3 times a day sucked in water and 3 times a day spit it out.) Luckily Odysseus made it through without being harmed by Charybdis and floated to the island of Calypso.

Odysseus and his crew landed on the island and Odysseus made his crew swear an oath to him that they wouldn't hurt any of Helios' animals. For over a month the men lived off of the food that Circe had given them, but after a while it ran out. The men started hunting and went after fish and birds. Meanwhile Odysseus went further into the island to pray but the gods put Odysseus to sleep. While he slept his companions decided they needed meat and killed Helios oxen.

The last danger that Circe warned Odysseus of was the sheep and cattle of the god Helios who's home was on the island of Thrinakia. Circe warned Odysseus that he and his crew must not to do them harm, and that if they did that this would bring the destruction of his ship and his crew.

Odysseus decided to take the path of Scylla. While sailing by Scylla swooped down from her cave and snatched up 6 of Odysseus's men.

Scylla and Charybdis

OH NO!!!

The Sirens

The next obstacle on their journey was getting by the two beasts Scylla and Charybdis. There was a giant wall of rock blocking Odysseus's path and the only way by it was through one of two passages. One contained the sea monster Charybdis which three times a day will suck in massive amounts of water and three times a day spit it out. While on the other side Scylla, a monster with six heads would swoop down and eat the sailors off the boat.

The first challenge after leaving the island were the sirens. The sirens are women-bird hybrids who with their singing attract sailors into their shore where they eventually crash and die. Circe warned Odysseus about the Sirens so he made his men put dried wax in their ears to drain out the sirens song. Odysseus had heard that anyone who hears the song is given incredible wisdom so his crewmen tied him to the mast as they sailed by.
