Side effects

Iodine 125 is a radioisotope used in radioactive treatment for prostate cancer. It is relatively safe, and very effective. Its half life is relatively long, at 59.4, allowing it to stay radioactive longer than other iodine radioisotopes such as iodine-123.
Length of the treatment will vary greatly depending on the severity of the cancer. Doctors will either give a low dose or high dose rate. Low dose rates are inserted and than become less radioactive the longer it is in the body. High Dose Rates are put in on one time and than taken out a few minutes later. Severeity of the cancer will determine what is the most effective dosage.
How it Works
Iodine-125 will help you by destroying diseased cells in your body. Doctors will use a radioactive seed and insert it into the cancerous tumour using an ultrasound and very thin needle. The doctors will be using protective gloves and the treatment will not effect any of the other surrounding organs. Although it might sound painful, it is widely acclaimed to be very much pain free.
