UNITY
Looks like you are not alone!
This is what Kurt Vonnegut had to say about writing:
Every paragraph in an essay should be related to the main idea. Each paragraph should "stick" to its main point.
A paper should be written in generally correct standard English, with complete sentences, and be relatively error-free.
Well, here are some ideas from a teacher and her students:
Ok, Mrs. Hull is going to add one more quality...
CREATIVITY
An essay or paper should be organized logically, flow smoothly, and "stick" together. In other words, everything that is written in the paper should make sense to the reader.
The best writing is that which carries some sort of personality, the individuality of its author. Use the qualities we discussed, but also use your own "voice"!
When you write, make every single point you are making clear. You should consider your audience to be a bunch of complete idiots who know NOTHING about your topic (yes, even if your audience is your teacher)! IF your writing is not clear, it may sound something like this to your audience:
Remember: an essay should have a single clear central idea (or thesis). Each paragraph should have a single clear main idea or topic sentence
Each paragraph should support the central idea of the paper. Individual sentences should support the main point of the paragraph.
