PQE Structure for Answering Questions in Junior Certificate English.

Q means QUOTE.

P means POINT.

E means EXPLAIN

The first thing you write is the POINT.

This is the answer to your question.

A quote is a line from the text where you found the answer.

A quote always gets a separate paragraph and inverted commas.

This is where you give details on why your answer is correct.

You use the quote to prove that you are right.

You can put your quote into your own words and link back to your question.

Choose one image from "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" that you like.

What is Isobel Thrilling telling her daughter in her poem?

The poet is telling her daughter to be careful in love.

The adjectives Marian Keyes uses to describe her shoes give us a clear picture of how she feels about them.

"I lined the floor of my wardrobe with five inch-heeled gold stilettos, eau-de-nil embroidered leather sandals and flowery Dr Martens....."

The adjectives give the impression that the shoes are very expensive, fancy and pretty and we can clearly imagine how precious they are to the writer.

Shoes will still fit you even if you put on weight,

"Shoes will still fit you snugly even if you haven't gone to the gym for over three weeks and you've been having curries and pizzas every night."

Once you have stopped growing your shoe size stays the same. So no matter how much weight you gain or lose, you will never have to change your shoes.

" Beware my sweet

Conquest may seem easy

But you can't compete with football"

I really like the image of the speaker standing in the quiet woods, (P)

"The only other sound's the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake." (Q)

I think this image has a very peaceful atmosphere. I love the way it sounds. (E)

Isobel Thrilling is warning her daughter that love is not as easy as it seems because boys are more interested in sports.
