Biography

  • She graduated from Waco High School in 1950 in Waco Texas
  • She went to Baylor university where she got her bachelors degree
  • After she had gotten married and moved she earned a teaching certificate from the University of Texas
  • She had taught social studies and history at Fulmore Junior High School in Austin for about a year

Famous for what?

  • As Richards' political life kept going up and up, She was in the national spotlight for the keynote address at the 1988 National Democratic Convention. During the speech she was giving, she made fun of George Bush, who was then the vice president, saying "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth." This was on the news for a very long time
  • She had opened the Texas government to all Texans, including African Americans, Hispanics, women, and the disadvantaged (Since this was in the 1900s)
