• She graduated from Waco High School in 1950 in Waco Texas
• She went to Baylor university where she got her bachelors degree
• After she had gotten married and moved she earned a teaching certificate from the University of Texas
• She had taught social studies and history at Fulmore Junior High School in Austin for about a year

Famous for what?

• As Richards' political life kept going up and up, She was in the national spotlight for the keynote address at the 1988 National Democratic Convention. During the speech she was giving, she made fun of George Bush, who was then the vice president, saying "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth." This was on the news for a very long time
• She had opened the Texas government to all Texans, including African Americans, Hispanics, women, and the disadvantaged (Since this was in the 1900s)

Family: It was just her, her mom and dad until she had married and moved to Austin Texas along with her four kids.

• When she had opened the Texas government to all Texans, including African Americans, Hispanics, women, and the disadvantaged (Since this was in the 1900s) she influenced every single of them

• She became the governor of Texas in 1990 and she had only spent one term in office
• Even she had lost in the election of 1944, to George W. Bush, She was really known for having plans to build a "new Texas" and make it better then it was back in the 1900s.

• Richards made history when she had defeated male Republican opponent Clayton Williams for the position of the governor of Texas with 49.9 percent of the vote.
• She was a very adored because of her values, depth and her character.

• In her service to Texas and the Nation had included teaching Texas schoolchildren, serving as the County Commissioner in Travis County, and also serving 2 terms as Texas State Treasurer, and finally serving as the Governor of Texas.
• She had reformed the Texas Prison system, and made the Texas lottery supplement school finances.
