I believe she is saying that the room is so messy that even lizards are deciding to sleep in there and make it their home.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.

I knew it looked familiar!"
She finally realizes that it is her room. In her root to perfection she doesn't realize the mess she makes on her way there. Nothing is perfect, everything has flaws so she then tries to act sypathetic.

Symbolism
I believe that this is coming from a perfectionist and they try so hard to have everything in order so when they see something they don't like, they criticize it.
The author used symbolism when he keeps repeating that the owner of the room should be ashamed. In the end, he gives it a twist, and it was his own room. It symbolises that he was not ashamed, but proud of his room.
