English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD)

The EALD Program is developed to meet the needs of students whose primary language is not English. This is done by:

* Programming

* Team teaching

-whole class

-group teaching

Bilingual/multilingual

support

  • Translator services (phone and staff)
  • Translated documents
  • Bilingual books/resources at Yagoona and Bankstown library.
  • School A-Z website. Translated documents.

New Arrivals Program (NAP)

Targeted program for students who speak very little or no English

Withdrawal in small groups:

-provides a less threatening language learning environment

-more opportunities to learn, experiment and adopt a new language

What does this mean?

Schools are responsible for providing appropriate learning experiences for all their students and supporting them in their learning.

Our school is also responsible for helping students develop a shared understanding of values and a sense of community.

At Yagoona Public School we have an integrated, whole-school approach to EALD, literacy and numeracy, cultural literacy and student welfare.
