How I would want to interact

Session 1: Initial Evaluation

Session 6: Re-Eval

As a PTA, I personally would want to interact with the clinical team members with daily email/written notes, as well as, formal meetings every 2 weeks on Monday's to discuss current patients and how they are progressing though POC and if there is anything we can do differently/change and are they ready to be discharged?

  • The PT would begin by going over patients history, followed by an assessment and an exam. Once the PT has an idea of what the cause is, they would diagnose the patient and then determine what goals the patient wants to reach during the rehabilitation process.
  • The PT then creates a POC completely tailored to the patients needs to help strengthen and heal the cause of the pain.
  • The PT explains what the next few session would consist of.
  • During this session, the PTA could be utilized in the collection of data, printing up at home exercises, demonstrating exercises, and to schedule 5 more sessions.
  • If PT and PTA have a good working relationship, the PT and and PTA can discuss the POC for the patient and what is to be expected from the PTA.
  • The PT does an assessment on the patient that indicates if there has been a significant improvement, decline, or change in the condition/functional status that was not indicated on the initial POC.
  • The PT focuses on the evaluation of progress toward current goals
  • Make a professional judgement about continued care
  • Modify goals and treatment or discharge patient.
  • During this session, the PTA could be utilized in the collection of data, printing up at home exercises and demonstrating exercises that could be utilized for self rehabilitation at the patients home.

Important Considerations

  • Familiarity with each other's educational background
  • Understanding the differences/similarities of each role
  • Be aware of and trust in each others skills and knowledge.
  • Strategies for effective communication with each other and those on the health care team
  • PT's comfort level in directing and providing supervisioin for the PTA and the PTA's ability to take responsibility.
