Goals

The name Christian Liberty Party points to Christ as the source of Liberty for both men and nations. “Christian Liberty” is succinct, provocative, and provides the essential antithesis to socialism and unbelieving political philosophy. In just two words, it expresses a concept that “American Heritage” could not. We believe it will be instrumental in transforming the political debate with the goal of rebuilding a Christian political conscience and worldview.

Our mission: The Christian Liberty Party exists to help reclaim America's political institutions and culture for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith. To this end we:

Those who found their efforts on the shifting sands of contemporary political wisdom are destined to fail. No political work founded on pragmatism and inclusiveness, bought and paid for by special interests, whose platform comes up for renegotiation at every election, and whose primary goal is political power for today, can hope to effect long term national reform. In their haste to capture political power in the short run, they sow the seeds of their own failure and ultimately reap a harvest of irreconcilable conflicts internally, and political ineffectiveness externally.

Immigration

The current status of the economy is a big issue. We think it would benefit them to take a stance on what should be done in order to improve our economy (unemployment, debt, recession, etc), instead of merely stating what is wrong with it.

ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN LIBERTY PARTY...

Whereas the nation has a duty to protect the families already within its borders, while simultaneously having a duty to respect the families of other nations, immigration laws must reflect these twin duties. The family being the seedbed of a well-structured society, it is in the national interest to promote the well-being of the family in every nation, so that our economic and political relations remain stable and fruitful. Thus, it is not desirable for any country to structure its immigration laws so as to skim off the most industrious, successful or desirable families from other countries for assimilation into itself. Such practices unjustly injure other countries, thereby destabilizing international relations and leading directly to conflict. Similarly, while the nation has a right to self-protection, the processes by which this right is defended must not unduly impede the right of parents to seek out better conditions for themselves and their children.

Terrorism

-For the 1996 election cycle, Todd Richert recruited activists to assist with ballot access. Howard Phillips flew out to attend the ballot access meetings, insisting that formal party organizing should be part of the agenda.

-For the 1998 election cycle, the American Heritage Party fielded two candidates for congress. Bruce Craswell, in the 1st Congressional District and John Beal in the 5th Congressional District.

-For the 2000 election cycle, the national party held its nominating convention a year early, in 1999 in St. Louis, in order to take advantage of certain campaign fundraising laws. This convention is where the national party changed its name to the Constitution Party.

A primary purpose of the federal government is to provide for the defense of the United States. We call for the maintenance of a strong, state-of-the-art land, sea, air and space-based defense system. We oppose the committing of U.S. forces to serve under any flag but that of the U.S.A. We oppose placing women in combat units

Environment

As God’s appointed steward, man has the responsibility to care for the earth and to use its resources wisely. We support scientifically valid efforts to preserve the environment, but we reject costly and unwarranted government regulation. We affirm the constitutional provisions that protect private property from being taken for public use or preservation without just compensation.

Taxes

We believe that the right of individuals to own property is God-given. Property taxes are tantamount to rental payments and thus imply state ownership of the land. We call for an end to property taxes, and, in the meantime, support legislation that allows only real property owners to vote on levies and bonds that would increase property taxes

It began as a Washington state affiliate of the U.S taxpayers party.After meeting Howard Phillips in 1991, Goodloe agreed to form a state party affiliate in support of a new national party effort. Goodloe changed the name of his fledgling party from the "American Party" to "Washington Taxpayers Party". In 1993, Goodloe left the Taxpayers Party and the state party became defunct. He turned the records and checking account over to Todd Richert who was appointed State Coordinator by the national party.

The right to bear arms, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment, is inherent in the right of self defense, defense of the family, and defense against tyranny. Existing laws placed against this fundamental right are unconstitutional and should be repealed.

2nd Amendment rights

Whereas the family has both spiritual and physical needs that must be met, the state has a duty to make sure that these needs are met. Consequently, since the state has only the power to assure the satisfaction of physical requirements, while the church has the ability to assure the satisfaction of both physical and spiritual requirements, the nation is at all times to honor the importance of religious expression in the public sphere

The state may not infringe on the expression of that religion. As the foregoing principles make clear, the doctrine of the separation of Church and state, as currently implemented by the judiciary and the legislative system, is a violation of the Constitution and of America's founding principles. Consequently, a clarification of the proper boundaries of state interference is required. Just as the full exercise of the ancient Aztec religion is properly outlawed today due to its improper use of the human person (e.g., human sacrifice), so any religion which violates the principles set forth above thereby violates the dignity of the human person. Such violations of the human person may never be permitted, since these attack the family, the state, the proper exercise of religion and the safety of the world itself. Admittedly, careful nuance is to be observed in the application of these principles so as to encourage the freedom of the human person while curbing or extinguishing that same person's tendency towards license.
