When Mr.Callaway says,
"We have a physics test."
The adventurous teenager Moana sails out on an important and life-changing mission to save her people. While attempting to restore the stolen heart of Te Fiti to regain the prosperity of her island, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod and heart thief, Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters, impossible odds, and many emotions. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: the forgotten identity of her and her people.
Scene 1
Within the scene Moana drops her sail and uses varying techniques to way-find. Are the displays of sailing physically accurate, and how well are they portrayed by animators in the film?
Within the scene, Moana is seen pushing over a large statue of Maui. Observing the laws of torque, Newton's laws, and general understandings of force, is it physically possible for Moana to push over a statue of this size the way she did?
Within the scene Maui jumps into the monster realm. one can hear Maui state, "I'm still falling," followed by a splash. using physics knowledge of sound, gravitational acceleration, speed, force, and common knowledge, is Moana able to survive the same fall as the demi-god?

conclusion
Fiction.
Considering the mass, height, force, and positioning it would be physically impossible for a girl of Moana's size to push of the Maui statue the way she did. Pushing against it is pushing against a system statue and ground. Since it is in addition a very rigid solid, it will transmit all of Moana's push to the ground. Moana can probably be convinced that the resistance of this system to motion is much greater than her own, even though it is in fact equal and opposite. The force needed to overcome the frictional force alone is too great for a girl of her size, making this feat impossible.
conclusion
Fact.
The animators of the film did have one accuracy, and that came to the water and sailing. Considering buoyancy, principles of lift and aerodynamics, sail placement, keel placement, weight, force, wind, current, and more, Moana accurately sails the sea!
Fiction.
Considering the highest dive sustained by a trained professional was 60m, and the diver suffered major fractures to his spine, it is impossible for Moana to survive the height of this fall. The fall is six times the semi-survival rate, so Moana would be practically mush following her leap of faith.
