Animal Disposal Needs

Having plans prior to an event which means:

- locking in a price

- a known resource/option

Multiple options are critical in a large scale event

ALL methods have their pros and cons

Plans at a local/state level are critical

Company made several allowances since this is a pre-planning event

Completed for Foot and Mouth Disease

Done for one state at a time due to cost and regulation variances

Left volume fairly open ended

Allowed to attach further documentation

Planning with Landfills PRIOR to an Event

Finding what landfills are in the area

What landfills are operated by large companies

Getting in touch with the right person

Providing information to quell fears

Impressing the need for pre-planning

Fulfilling a critical need

Each disease will react differently in a landfill situation, thus approaching disease by disease will give a landfill the best information to make an educated decision

Will likely differ in volume

Waste Management, Inc. will accept FMD animals into three of their landfills in Illinois

Scope of work is being written

Financial agreements need to be made (who will sign for APHIS?)

Additional contracts to be submitted for Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota
